Alaska Rush Soccer Club

The School of Excellence and its extension program the Rush Youth Soccer League are Alaska Rush's pre-competitive, developmental program for youth soccer players in Anchorage, Alaska and its surrounding areas.

About the Alaska Rush School of Excellence

The Alaska Rush School of Excellence is an eight-week program designed and modeled after some of the top European professional academies, many of which have existed for over 30+ years. Players like Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), and Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) all began their careers as soccer-crazed youngsters before being invited to participate in their respective club's premier developmental programs. As a result of the consistent, professional-level training they received through such schools, they are now regarded as some of the world's most elite players playing for some of the world's most elite teams.

The Mission of the Alaska Rush School of Excellence is to provide a professional level training program for U4, U6, U8, U9, and U10 boys and girls. The program is designed to introduce and develop the individual player's technical skills with the ball and to stimulate his/her desire to play soccer competitively in a team environment. The program will provide a quality soccer education and healthy competition in a setting that promotes creativity and encourages players to take risks and improvise without fear of mistakes.

Relaunched in September 2012, the Alaska Rush School of Excellence uses an Academy Approach geared toward boys and girls ages 3 to 10 years of age, placing a large emphasis on player and team development in a quality training environment. The aim is to improve a player's technical skills, expand his/her game awareness, and finally introduce the competitive game as well as its systems and positional play.

The Alaska Rush School of Excellence training curriculum is designed to introduce and complement future, competitive match-play as well as address the immediate needs of the youth soccer player. It is a combination of technical and tactical topics with the emphasis mostly on technical and skill development of the players. The curriculum will cover important, age-appropriate topics such as:

  • Dribbling, including shielding and taking a player on
  • Finishing, the technical aspects of bending, instep, placement combined with where and how to line-up
  • Passing, striking the ball with a variety of surfaces, deception and the weight of your pass will be introduced
  • Receiving and turning with the ball
  • Shielding, protecting the ball with the body
  • Heading, introduction with the older age groups
  • Offensive, small group combinations, small group shape will be introduced
  • Defending, players know they must work hard to get ball back

Players showing a more technical aptitude and competitive spirit may qualify for higher-level training opportunities through the Early Identification Program (EIP), a program which identifies those advanced players at an early age and aims to further along their development by fast-tracking them into more competitive soccer with programs like the SOE Academy Team

Additionally, players will also have the opportunity to show off their skills and play in league games in the Rush Youth Soccer League.

If it's a player's desire and passion is to grow and excel in the game of soccer in a positive and enjoyable team environment, then the Alaska Rush School of Excellence is the right place to begin that path.
