The Alaska Rush 02G Nike team traveled to Tukwila, WA to participate in the Jamba Juice Starfire Labor Day Cup. The girls were joined by three Washington Rush guest players who ended up being a valuable addition to the team. This was the first travel tournament for the girls, who enjoyed rooming together at the hotel, playing in the pool, and enjoying other outings into Seattle.
The girls enjoyed a training session with the Washington Rush players on the Starfire turf before their games began early Saturday afternoon. That Friday evening, the team, including guest players, enjoyed a dinner together where the girls all sang, "Happy Birthday" to Coach Jason, who joined them on the trip to Washington.
The girls won their first game handily, against RV Slammers Blue 02, with a score of 10-0. Their second game, the same evening, was also a win at 6-0 versus Kent United White. Washington Rush keeper, Kylie, did a great job commanding the box and keeping her defenders in line.
After a morning off, the girls played their third game against a tougher opponent, Eastside FC White, edging them out for a 2-1 win and putting Alaska Rush 02G Nike into the semi-finals.
The semi final game versus eventual tournament champion Seattle United Copa, played at 8 am on Labor Day, would be the girls final game as they went down early in the first half 1-0 and were unable to fight back to equalize, despite a number of chances.
It was a well played tournament and a great experience for all the girls!
